    I...um...*embarrassed*
I switched to "alternative" menstrual products about 3 months ago. And I love them! But it's not exactly the most "yell-this-off-of-a-mountaintop" topic, ya know?

I have not been very green but I did just purchase some of these sacks! I'm giving a few to my motherinlaw for mother's day - so I only kept a couple. Would absolutely LOVE more so I can not use any plastic sacks at all!
  • Carmen · 1 year ago
We fanatically recycle, compost and try to walk or bike places as much as we can. If we do drive, we turn off the car at long stoplights. We only turn on lights in the room we're currently in. We grow a lot of our own food, using collected rainwater to water the garden and indoor plants. We try to do little things that will make a difference.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    I did a whole post on our green-ness. http://shalees.blogspot.com/2008/04/green-aroun...

We're doing our part around here!
  • jen · 1 year ago
We have been trying to embrace our green-ness in the Loving family. Hopefully we'll continue to do more and more! We've stopped buying plastic toys and moved into natural organic materials for our playthings. We also reconstruct our clothes into cool things to reduce the amount of excess materials we consume/throw away. We only used reusable bags for shopping now and have just started a compost in our yard. Being green is totally contagious and we've found that kids love it!
  • AdventureInBabywearing · 1 year ago
I should like to win this most fabulous prize! Our latest green change is getting serious about using my fun and funky cloth napkins again instead of paper towels!

I've started reusing my cracker and cereal boxes for shipping things and storing things rather than throwing them away!!
  • Melissa · 1 year ago
We joined a CSA last year, which was our first step on this journey. Switched over to reusable bags--I love your giveaway, I'd love to have more!

My next step is to make some cotton produce bags so that I stop depending so much on the store plastic bags.
  • oh amanda · 1 year ago
I only use natural products on my body.
And I'm stocking up on cloth bags so I can stop using so many plastic ones!

I changed over all my lightbulbs. I knew I had to do it when my 20 yr old sister offered to buy me the lightbulbs for Christmas. I've also taken to unplugging the toaster and microwave when I'm not using them. Which works well most of the time except for when you forget to plug them in and set something to defrost...
  • Shauna · 1 year ago
These bags are so much nicer looking than most that I've seen! I'm trying to buy more locally grown produce and might buy a CSA share.
  • Keara · 1 year ago
Those look so nice! We recycle, turn lights off, have energy star appliances and fans and I am about to cloth diaper my youngest!
  • 4 Little men · 1 year ago
Oh those are too cool! I've been bringing my 'paper' bags back into the store to use again... so these would be PERFECT. :)

As a mom of two little ones, I've been "green"ing all over the place! (Mostly by only being able to shower two or three times a week, and never for longer than 6 minutes!)
  • Nicole · 1 year ago
I am trying not to buy much and doing my best to make the things I do buy last as long as possible. I have gone as far as sewing up holes in my shoes - which got me a couple of comments about "taking the broke student thing way too far," but I actually could afford new ones. I just don't like throwing things away.

P.S. Hilary, you're not the only one.
  • Heather A · 1 year ago
No more plastic bags!!!! :) I actually took the last of my stockpile from shopping today and dropped them off to be recycled! Now I need some bags! And these are much cuter than the local ones!
  • Kimberly · 1 year ago
I re-use all boxes I can for shipping things out. We reuse any plastic bags we might aquire and/or return them to the store for them to re-use. Walk instead of using the car whenever possible. Recyle. When I am done with a book or a magazine I pass it along to someone else so they don't need to purchase another copy which would waste me trees and fill up our landfills. We no longer use bottled water. I try and buy "green" products. We replaced our light bulbs to be energy efficient ones. We turn off electricity as often as we can. We keep the thermostat down low. And a bunch of other things.
  • jen smith · 1 year ago
we are thinking of puttinig in solar panels. those sacks are great.
  • Susanne · 1 year ago
I love these! We've stopped putting our recyclable cans, bottles, etc. in plastic bags...we go straight to the recycle bin with them.

We are moving next month and will have a real back yard for the first time. I plan on having a nice garden filled with organically grown vegetables. I am also trying to get a nice collection of reusable bags so that I don't have to use as many plastic bags.
  • Greenstylemom · 1 year ago
We have made lots of green changes in our home. As soon as it is a bit warmer, we are going to do some worm composting.

Hey look! Gimme, gimme! I tried switching to recycled toilet paper but my husband isn't having it. In lieu of that I am thinking of composting our human waste. For real, they have some sweeet poop buckets out there. Ok, on a serious note, I think our biggest change, while not so crafty has been going green to clean. I used to lurve me some toxic chemicals.
  • Rhi · 1 year ago
I am a fanatic recycler. So, there is that. But, I am also fanatic about taking all the free bath products my suitcase will carry when I travel. And, then, never ever using them. So, I have started using those damn mini toiletries instead of buying giant bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Go ME!
  • Claire · 1 year ago
I've wanted to start using reusable bags like these but haven't, yet. These would inspire me! We shop thrift shops for clothing instead of buying new.
  • ChristiS · 1 year ago
This is awesome! My husband just purchased some reusable bags from our grocery store. We have always reused our grocery bags, but this way we don't have to keep storing them! Thanks for sharing, and please stop by my giveaway too!
  • Sarah K · 1 year ago
Please add my name to the hat. We have started using reusable grocery bags and have switched all of our lightbulbs.
  • Amanda · 1 year ago
My husband and I switched to using cloth towels and napkins instead of the paper version. We have noticed a big difference in our trash output and our grocery bill as well.

I think it's so great how many people are doing green giveaways. Those bags are awesome.
  • Lisa · 1 year ago
It's great that there are so many green giveaways this time!

The newest thing I have done to be green is buying most or all of my makeup from everydayminerals.com they are a great company and they aren't far from me so less waste with shipping.
  • sharla · 1 year ago
Well let's see..we switched our lightbulbs, I make all the baby food, we recycle all cans and paper waste.

    I would love those bags!
  • Lissete · 1 year ago
I can so use some re-usable bags! Not only do we recycle EVERYTHING, we also changed out most of our light bulbs. I also am playing around with all the new "green" products out there to find the perfect fit for us.

I have been trying to really step up our recycling/reuse efforts lately. My dh is so bad about throwing things in the trash that can go in the recycling bins - I dig the stuff out of the trash and put it in the bins!

I started to read labels on cleaners and was completely freaked out by the toilet bowl cleaner cautions....So I bought the powder kind of toilet bowl cleaner - but then the powder started frolicking in the air and coming at me like a vapor cloud - so I got scared. I am trying to go green and have recently bought Clorox Green cleaners. I am too cheap to throw the others out - so I am still trying to use them up.
  • Broad Horizons · 1 year ago
Among other things we use cloth napkins, rags instead of paper towels, and wipes instead of TP (for the kids and me).
  • Lesha · 1 year ago
I plan on chucking most of my hair care, cosmetics and skin care that is'nt
organic. I did'nt realize that most of these commercial beauty products that
women use everyday are full of toxins and bad chemicals that should'nt come
in contact with human skin let alone animals.
  • Queen B · 1 year ago
These are great! We have a car wash business and are in the process of putting in a water reclamation system to cut down our water consumption by 80%. And at home we recycle everything possible!
  • Kristin · 1 year ago
I ahve been trying to get my hands on some reuable bags for quite some time. I would love these! Perfect for groceries, our family tries not to take those plastic bags we often carry items out of the store by themselves. Everyone looks at us like we are crazy but nope we don't want those plastic nightmares!

What a wonderful giveaway. I've been loving these bags for awhile but haven't brought myself to buy them!

My husband and I do a lot of "green" things, but the easiest change we've made is to stop using plastic bags at the grocery store. Using the reusable bags would be even better! Oh yeah, and we changed all our light bulbs. And we take SUPER short showers. And we buy earth-friendly dog food. And... well, you get the idea. :)
  • mom2fur · 1 year ago
I've started making and using cloth napkins, but I have a more ulterior motive than being 'green'--cloth is just so much nicer! Thanks for doing this giveaway. My e-mail is Lufmikidz at aol dot com.

'Cause I'm a mom to lots of dudes
And we go through lots of food
So I wanna win the bags, win the bags!

(Um, do you like my song? We are pretty green at our house...but I couldn't figure out how to put that into the song too. I could make up another song if you'd like...)
  • AF · 1 year ago
We are using CFL bulbs, recycling and considering starting a compost pile. I'd love to win the bags to help with grocery shopping!
  • Jennifer · 1 year ago
When we shower in my household we only turn the water on to get ourselves wet and to rinse. The entire time it's off to help conserve our water resources.

What a change in the water bill too! It's only a bit, but every bit helps not only us but the environment!
  • Anne · 1 year ago
We stopped buying paper towels. We don't necessarily use anything instead, but if you don't have paper towels on hand, you make do! :)

we just bought a prius. gotta love 54mpg on my trip to work!
  • ambre · 1 year ago
I am trying to slowly change our family into a green one... even if it's just a light green! It may seem small, but after two years of marriage, we're finally getting around to putting our recycling bin out with the trash!
As a side note, my fifteen-month old decided she too would go green and removed her disposable diaper before peeing on the carpet this morning. Way to save that diaper for one more use kiddo! :)
  • Ms. Polka Spot · 1 year ago
WOW, those are cool bags! We are trying a lot of things around here at the farm. Cutting out excess trips to the city, and opting for just the town stuff, and fewer trips to town on top of that. Making bags has been on top of my list, although people here still don't "get it"
  • Melanie · 1 year ago
What neat bags! I'm getting better at packing my son a green lunch. I've been shopping at Henry's more and more and buying bulk items that I can put into re-usable containers.
  • abbyjess · 1 year ago
If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down.

As my area has been having a serious water shortage,we have been conserving water in numerous ways among other "green" changes.
  • Ginny · 1 year ago
In our family we have switched to flourecent bulbs, recycle everything possible, keep the heat down in the winter, turn off all light possible, and try to purchase locally. These bags are really nice!
  • Virpi · 1 year ago
I walk if possible. I don't use dryer anymore. I try to heat the house with wood. I switch of the lights, tv, radio, computer when they are not in use. Recycle all carbages and we buy most of our clothes from second-hand-shops.
  • seven · 1 year ago
I love those bags! They're adorable. We recycle as much as we can, and I'm planning on making some grocery bags out of sheets, but those bags are really cute... I'm a sucker for any sort of bag. It's a curse. :)
  • Amber (Imperishable Beauty) · 1 year ago
I'd love to have some of these!

I'm not super-green yet, but I've been switching to green cleaners, I've been making a point to use more washcloths and handtowels in lieu of paper towels. I also make our laundry soap which means that with all that laundry I have to wash, I'm not create tons of waste with empty plastic detergent bottles.
  • bunny · 1 year ago
This lil bunny goes green by recycling, using reusable shopping cloth bags, switching off all the lights in any room that's unoccupied, makes sure the faucets are shut tight, uses solar lights in her garden :) Thanks for the chance to win!
  • A Mama's Blog (Heather) · 1 year ago
I bought some of these (different design) last year to "go green." I hated all the plastic bags I was getting from the grocery store. We also use cloth diapers, and recycle everything we can. Thanks for the contest. These are AWESOME bags!!
  • jubilee · 1 year ago
We've switched out our light bulbs, are buying green household cleaners, thrift shop for clothes, unplug appliances when not in use, flush less often, take fewer and shorter showers, use reusable bags (even though in these here parts it's still a novelty and people look at us funny), recycle paper, plastic and metal, donate books and magazines, share subscriptions to magazines with other mothers, and use dryer way less often. Would love to have more reusable bags to give away as gifts and to use myself. Cool giveaway!
  • Deborah · 1 year ago

In the last year I've started cloth diapering my kiddos. We use several reusable shopping bags...more would be great, so we wouldn't have to use any plastic. Just recently I switched to natural eco-friendly laundry soap and softner AND I've started washing my regular loads at a lower temp.

This is a great giveaway! and a great idea to give a second prize to the most creative comment. Limits the amount of those pesky 2 word comments you would get. :)

  • Allison · 1 year ago
My newest green effort: I sleep more. Seriously! I'm trying to go to bed not long after my son, which means the lights are out more, the computer's off, and the house is quiet and using less energy. Besides, it's also just better for my health in the long run!
  • Jill · 1 year ago
We've switched out our lightbulbs, set our thermostat on a timer, considering a compost bin, gardening organically, supporting our local farmer's market, buying more natural products, and I'm starting to switch over to reusable grocery bags.

I don't nearly have enough, though, and these would certainly help. Thanks for the chance.
  • Naomi · 1 year ago
We compost for the garden and are converting all the lightbulbs, slowly but surely...

I've recently made a commitment to only buying used clothing for a year! Thrift stores/yard sales here I come!!!

    I adore those bags!!!!
  • Martha W · 1 year ago
I use old cookbooks that I get at Thrift shops to cook the way my grandmother did. She lived thru the Depression & could stretch a penny like no one I know. I don't think enough people realize how far a lot of the food we buy travels and how much it costs to get to us. I buy local if at all possible.

We are turning off lights when we are not using them and have reusable bags for some grocery shopping. My family is talking about joining a CSA this summer for the first time, as well. We're also doing Green Tip of the Week in our newsletter from our site, to encourage others to be greener! Wow...I was only trying to think of one thing :)

My favorite green thing to do is to make my kids march ALL the way back upstairs to turn off lights when they leave them on...nope, I'm a mean mom and I don't turn them off for them! Also, with 2 teenage girls in the house, we've begun setting a timer for the shower to eliminate the 20-minute soaks.

I walk or take the bus everywhere, and I bring my backpack with me to the store instead of getting more shopping bags.
  • Jule · 1 year ago
I've bought a couple of reusable shopping bags and keep one in my purse-now if I could just remember to use them...
  • Stacey · 1 year ago
We are using CFLs where we can and have programmable thermostat to install. We also don't use the AC much in the summer and just try to oepn up windows (that isn't much of a change for us though). We also recycle and take what we can to the reuse center.
  • Sarah · 1 year ago
I am really trying harder to use reusable shopping bags for everything. It has been a hard transition for some reason -- I keep having to run back to the car to get the bags from the trunk.

    i love these bags!

Oh! I so want these!!! I have been looking at some reuable bags and haven't purchased any yet.

In my home, we are "greening our clean." I have switched all of my cleaning supplies to green, non toxic. It has been a long process, but I am happy with it!

I have been wanting to try these sacks. My family and I have been trying to make positive changes - the most significant of which is getting a hybrid and carpooling to work and school. We hope to make more changes in the home in the coming months - and these would help.

We were fortunate enough to be able to remodel our house this year. So, we decided that if we're going to do it once, we'd better do it right. So we got the project certified a green remodeling project through our state by recycling 70% of the outgoing materials, using local and sustainable projects, using low-waste construction techniques, and -- whew -- a lot more.
It was extra work and a little extra expense, but it was worth it.

  • Melissa · 1 year ago
Oh these are so great... I've been looking for a great (i.e. not ugly!) reusable bag for grocery shopping. As for my green habits... my husband and I started recycling as much as possible. Our recycle bin (which is bigger than our trash bin) has to be put out weekly for pick up while our trash would only be put out once a month if it weren't for smells! I've also stopped using plastic cups at work for water. A coffee mug works great and is easy to clean so I'm not adding to the landfill!
  • Danielle · 1 year ago

These are the coolest grocery totes I've ever seen! My best green habit is my reusable water bottle. Haven't used a disposable bottle in ages. Also slowly making the change to green cleaners. And using lots of vinegar and baking soda!
  • lindsey · 1 year ago
I have been walking to work whenever possible, joined a CSA, use reusable shopping bags everywhere, compost food scraps, and I'm in the process of obtaining a rain barrel.
  • Jean · 1 year ago
    Cloth diapering! I'm loving it!
  • Erika · 1 year ago
OOh, ok -- I've really done my best to go green this past year! I've switched to all non-toxic and organic cleaning products, I only feed my toddler organic food and drinks (we try to eat organic whenever possible as well), and I've switched to Born Free sippy cups and Natursutten Pacifiers for my little one. We also use organic shampoo and body wash, and try to limit our water and energy use. Whew!

I have been wanting to switch to re-usable bags for a while now, but my husband refuses to do it because he thinks the canvas sacks look dorky. Maybe these will entice him to be a little braver. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

I unplug appliances (microwave, toaster, coffee pot) when I'm not using them. And have a motion-detected porch light so that it only comes on when I need it at night instead of leaving it on all day when I know I'll be working late.

Great sacks! Like many people, we use reusable water bottles. Any containers we do bring into the house that can be reused, I try to use them in our craft projects. There are so many creative ways to use cardboard, plastic containers, glass jars, and even tin cans. Its a cheap, easy and fun way to reuse everyday items.

Great looking bags. We have been swithching to reuseable bags, but are using a store brands bags and they are ugly. These would be a nice replacement.
  • cassie · 1 year ago
Interestingly we are trying to develop a collection of reusable bags for grocery shopping. We need many since we only go once a month and buy two carts worth of groceries. We also switched to compact flourescents. We have stopped buying any product that we know contains bpa or phthalates-they're not just bad for our bodies, they're bad for the environment too. Thanks for this chance to win. And thanks for bringing awareness to environmental issues.

waterproof - I did not know that. Thank you for helping the earth remain green.

For a while hubby and me lived with his ma on the cow farm. Hubby is a genius and was working on a bio-fuel. He was trying to convert the cow patties into usable methane.

He gathered the cow poop, preformed experiments on it and was at the stage where he had metal tanks full of the almost perfected fuel. One of tanks blow it's top. Up into the sky went a perfectly shaped round, thin, 3 foot long and growing longer as it traveled up into the air, dark, solid piece of .....

When it hit the ground it had turned on it's side.

    The rest of the story:

Mother-in-law was convinced that one of her cow was sick. It looked like a cow had a terrible case of runs made while it was running in a straight line.

This happened over 27 years ago and he is still trying to find ways to save this Earth.

No more water bottles, energy saving appliances and lightbulbs and using reusable grocery bags are some of the ways we are doing our part!
  • Genevieve · 1 year ago
We use CFL bulbs. I (almost always : )) use cloth diapers, and dry our clothes on the clothesline. I use canvas shopping bags. I usually make our own bread, and in general we buy almost no processed food. We use the AC/heat sparingly--we keep the house at 64 in winter, 80 in summer. We have low flow shower heads, and my husband turns the shower off while he's soaping up, but I'm not that gung ho. : ) We buy cage-free eggs/poultry and free-range beef. Umm... that's all I can think of right now. : )

We let mother nature take care of regulating our house's temperature in the spring, summer, and as long into the fall as we can. We open up the windows and just wear a little less clothing (within reason... decency is still key!). Opposite goes in winter.... we lower the heat and wear sweaters and use blankets.
  • mama4jc · 1 year ago
We made the switch to cloth diapering our kiddies nad have been using reusable bags as much as we can! :)

  • Carma · 1 year ago
We just had our house "overhauled" by a professional through the local HEAP agency. They came out, changed all of our bulbs to the enviro bulbs, checked our appliances and told us how much we could save by making little changes (such as using cold water to wash clothes). I also don't use throw away water bottles anymore -- everyone in my house has their own plastic one now. GREAT giveaway!!
  • Mae · 1 year ago
I switched from disposable diapers to flushables!!!! Need to move away from plastic bags.
  • Kristie · 1 year ago
Our family likes to can our vegetables from our garden, we also eat our own beef, we've never been ones to buy bottled water-we've always drank from the tap. There are so many more things that I'd like to do including using reusable grocery bags and using "green" household cleaners. Although, I don't clean as much as I probably should, so I must be cutting out some chemicals in the air that way! :-)
  • Risa · 1 year ago
Going green has become a passion for me. I love the concept and when I think about it, it's really just living how people use to live.

In our house, we have a few things that we've started...
-NO MORE PAPER PLATES....this was a hard one because my children wash the dishes....they did not like me for a while after this new rule was invented....
-RECYCLED BAGS FOR THE STORE....my kids and husband will not use these....I love them.....they are in every car and I even have one that I can fold that is always in my purse....I have no excuses.....
-NO MORE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES.....I just refill the few I have and I just use a glass when I'm at home....
-MORNING COFFEE....when I stop for my morning coffee, I have my own coffee mug (of course it's tall with a lid)....not only am I helping the earth, I'm charge for a refill and it 50% cheaper.....
  • windycindy · 1 year ago
Happy Earth Day! Your giveaway retro reusable bags are great looking. The biggest change our family has made thus far is turning down the water heater temperature and taking shorter showers. As a dog owner, I've always used plastic grocery store bags to pick up poop. I assumed I was recycling...until I found out that they sit in landfills.

    Those bags are beautiful!

We switched to cloth bags a year ago, and donated the several hundred plastic bags I had shoved under my kitchen sink!

But we're using the very plain black cloth bags from our local store. They are great when my hubby is carrying the groceries, but not so chic when I'm doing the hauling!

I'm filling up both of my drying racks, and one of these days, I'll figure out where to put my too-short clothesline in the backyard. Well, actually, that should read, "where my husband will put my too-short clothesline." I have no talent for installing things.

Ok, so I finally started recycling...I know I should have for a long time now but man it amazes me how much I was throwing out! I even bought a cute sticker for the recycling can and retrained the kids on what goes where. What got me to do it? An episode of Mister Rogers, actually! "Think before you throw it away." That's what Mister McFeely said!

We don't have trash removal service. We make so little trash that our neighbour takes it to the landfill every other month for us with his trash. We recycle everything, and purchase only things that are easy to recycle. This of course means no paper towels, nothing disposable and nothing individually wrapped.

I would love to win these bags, I actually don't have reusable shopping bags. I never buy trash bags from the store though - I re-use the grocery bags as trash bags. The paper bags are great for collecting and recycling all the other paper products.
  • Andrea · 1 year ago
we've made the change to cloth diapers and wipes. Hey.. I may have to have a lil poop in my washer, put my hands in some poop to pull out an insert... waddling poop isn't all that bad. Ha ha! But it's better for the environment. =)

I've been planning on switching to these kind of bags, but haven't put the money into them yet. Enter me please.
  • Shannon · 1 year ago
We've recently started recycling...I know, horrible that we didn't start sooner! It's amazing how it cuts down on the trash...especially with as many boys as I've got!

These bags look great! I've been wanting to make myself some bags to take to the grocery store!
  • Reiza · 1 year ago
We potty trained the baby early. Does that count? We did a combo of cloth dipes and disposables with him, so now that he's out of diapers, there's less water being used for washing and no more plastic diapers going into the landfills as a result of his bum.

Just in case that doesn't count, we're also trying to simplify. If we buy less, then we'll have less waste. When we give away what we already have, but don't really need, then we're recycling those things and they won't wind up in the landfills.

Coming from MI recycling pop cans and bottle was second nature... Who could pass up an easy .10? My father would embarrass us kids by stopping in the middle of the road or parking lot to pick one up if he got the chance. He would point out that the extra cash would help pay for gas and taking us kids out bowling or to the movies. It would be one thing if we were strapped for cash, but he has a pretty good Automotive factory job. I must say his Depression era parents did a great job of a imparting a healthy dose of financial common sense into their four children.

Less then two years ago I moved to Texas and got married. My new husband wasn't much into recycling, but I have since changed his ways and showed him how fun and easy it really is.

His small mobile computer business gives him ample opportunity to recycle a multitude of unwanted cable and gadgets, not to mention more soda cans then you can shake a stick at!

My first avenue of attach was to find a recycler who gave $2 bills in their change, which instantly got his attention, then I made it even easier by purchasing three colored trash bins from Ace hardware

    Black: Cable/copper
    Green: Aluminum/steel
    Red: electronics

Paper, cardboard, and glass to into the city's green home recycle bins.

We now rid our home based business of clutter and once a month have enough set aside for a fun dates and other family activities!

I've been embracing a 'greener' lifestyle, reusable bags were one of my few holdouts because I always thought the bags were so lame until now! I actually LIKE these and would gladly make the switch to bringing my own bags to the supermarket with bags this cool. I wasn't willing to use the ever popular, "I'm Not A Plastic Bag" bags....

I've been recycling glass, cans, and plastic for 25 years now, way before they called it green....this past year I helped finance my daughter's Prius.

We've recently have become more green concious. We changed all the light bulbs in our house to the energy saving bulbs and we're looking for more ways to help the earth. Thanks for offering this giveaway. Love these bags. Thanks.

    reusable bags

    they carry my groceries
and if they ever wear out,
    Kroger gives me more.

    Thanks! :-)

Love the Envirosacks... Crazy Aunt Purl talked about them on her blog yesterday!

Me... environmentally friendlier... reusable bags, travel mugs, Nalgene water bottles, recycling everything I can... but the biggest thing for me is taking a shower every other day... so far no complaints from others... not that I have heard.

This might take a change of pace in the hot winter!

I work for a hearing aid company and have started a recycling program for batteries that otherwise would be in the trash. My daughter and I are "cleaning up" on our evening walks. We take a trash and a recycle bag on our walk and have cleaned up our neighborhood. We live behind a middle/high school, and those kids are messy. Last but not least we have changed the light bulbs, water less, recycle more, and are AWARE!

Well I reuse my aluminum foil, yes I do, I wipe it down, let it dry and use it again and again until it rips or cannot be used again. By the way if you wrap your cheese up in aluminum foil it is far more resistant to the growth of mold, since the foil does not let any light in. My sister refers to me as the strange lady with the ball of string ( or in my case aluminum foil) under the sink lol. But I look at it as not only a way to help the environment, but a money saver too!

These bags are beautiful. We use totes for everything. When we go to resturants, we take our own containers for leftovers. We had a neighborhood get together this weekend, we planted a tree,..in my yard since it was my party! We use soy candles for ambiance,..or whatever, instead of lights always on! I would be proud to own your totes. Great way to color coordinate outfits, since I take one wherever I go!
  • Madam Pince · 1 year ago
I've switched to a green laundry soap and am purchasing Energy Star appliances as we replace dying ones. Also switched over to CFL lightbulbs.

One of my Freecycle groups is trying to organize a recycling center. We live in a rural area that doesn't support recycling.

Have to say, though, that some aspects of our lives are not recyclable. My hubby is on home dialysis, and his supplies are NOT recyclable. So we do our best in other areas.

Love this idea for a giveaway! Thanks for the chance to participate!

The biggest green change I've made lately is buying a new washer. Oh, I have to point out that my old one died first...it's not green to send good appliances to the landfill. :) Anyway, I got a high-efficiency toploader (Fisher and Paykel brand) and I've been very pleased with how much water it is saving. I think it's also saving us on electricity because it spins the clothes very dry so the dryer runs a much shorter time. Can't use the clothesline here this time of year...too much pollen falling off the trees. :(

The most accomplished thing I have done so far is that I've encouraged two close friends to recycle by picking up their recyclables myself and taking them to the recycling station so now they don't have any reason not to recycle. I can't tell you how much their recycling containers have grown over time!

I'm perfectly willing to give up cooking and cleaning in order to save the earth. I think others should join me in this cause. Really, it's for our children's futures.

Seriously, though, we switched to reusable grocery bags, and even though they are ugly, I feel good that we did it.

We've gotten rid of all paper and plastic goods except toilet paper. We use cloth napkins, rags made from worn-out clothes, handkerchiefs, stainless steel refillable water bottles, and glass/china plates/cups, and stainless steel flatware.
  • Noah · 1 year ago
A while back we switched to all non-toxic cleaners. More recently we're trying the energy saving lightbulbs, our own grocery bags, and hanging clothes to dry rather than using the dryer. I'm currently looking into a clothesline for outside, right now we just have an Ikea drying rack for inside. Which is fine since I live in WA and it doesn't get sunny until June or so!

My New Year's resolution was to rid myself of plastic bag use. I've been doing really well so far. I'm still looking for an enviro-friendly way to pick up dog poop though... I've also made it a point to wash everything in cold water and line dry what I can. Oh, and I've stopped buying junk I don't need and using what I have. Planning a garage sale for all the junk I have and don't want even though I really, really, want to declutter and just throw it out... :)

In honor of Earth Day, I replaced all my light bulbs with flourescent bulbs, planted 2 new trees, and some flowers that bees and butterflies like. I also started using 'green' cleaners and cut up old t-shirts to use as rags instead of buying sponges like I used to do. I still don't have enough grocery tote bags to totally get rid of plastic bags, but winning this give away would do it! Thanks for the chance to win some.

We let our 2 year old run around with no bottoms on! This is actually a three-fold bonus: 1. It cuts down on diaper use, (ie. washing, electricity). 2. it's more condusive to potty training. 3. He can also help "fertilize" the yard when we're outside. (I also sometimes hold a pillow to my husband's face when he's sleeping, to minimize his carbon footprint..(just kidding honey!)).

We've been working to become more green. Reusable bags are a big way and I would love to have these! We are also patronizing local farmers.
  • Michele McHenry · 1 year ago
Well, of course I have started my going "green" by using reusable bags for my groceries or my bottomless pit of a purse for large items. We have every type of bag known to man to carry all types of stuff,
I also started doing other things such as using only cold water for laundry and natural detergents. I am even using cold water to wash my hair! Believe it or not, cold water makes hair much more shiney and not to mention wakes up the brain for the day! Also, being disabled has actually been helpful in MAKING me go green. One way is that I can no longer care for the very long, colored, highlited, curly, massive mane I had due to arm weakness. So, I shaved it off. It actually uses less product to wash and now, I am sticking to my natural "salt and pepper" color so that I do not use all the chemicals to color it. I actually have discovered it gets some great highlites just from being outside in the sun! Not only saving the enviroment but, time and MONEY!
Using the sugar scrubs and other all natural ingrediants on my body, and hair such as honey, citrus and lavendars, etc as well as the frigid water.... has really made a difference in not only going green, but, I have found it has made my outside look as sweet and beautiful as my inside!
Oh, and my favorite thing to do is pick a petal off one of my rose bushes and rubbing it on my lips for some natural, lushious lip action. All I use is a little bit of gloss to keep them moist. I have done that since I was a teenager when most folks referred to me as the "flower Child".

While in the military we saw Korean ladies using practical mesh bags to carry purchases in the 70's and bags we brought home with us are still in use. In the 90's we were stationed in England and quickly learned the cashier would glare at you until you packed and removed your purchases from the counter so the next purchase could be rung up. Plastic bags were available but you had to purchase each one which quickly taught people to bring their own. If our stores started charging for each paper or plastic bag, I just bet we would see a lot more shoppers bringing their own. Rather than purchasing new bags, tote bags of all sizes are often available at rummage sales.

We have been gradually making changes in our home so that we are more environmentally responsible. We've replaced both of our old furnaces (one was more than 30 years old and not very efficient), switched to CFL lights and most recently replaced half of our windows. We used the Energy Credit for these windows on our taxes. Next on the list are the rest of the windows. I hope they extend the Energy Credit for 2008.

We do a lot of green things living here in Arizona where water conservation and maintaining the beauty of the desert are essential. Recycling is required in our city so we sort everything for the recyle cans (one for paper, glass, etc and one for yard/gardening) which goes out and is picked up by the city on a day different from garbage. We use tote bags instead of plastic. We've gotten rid of plastic water bottles. We give away clothing, books, and other household items to charity thrift shops. We have our a/c set higher, use power-saving lightbulbs, and find fewer lights much more romantic! We also participated in the "lights out for an hour" campaign the city sponsored and enjoyed the candlelight so much that we do it on a regular basis!

Several months ago I purchased "Use Again" bags to use whenever I shop. It's amazing the number of plastic bags that don't cross my threshold anymore. Another green thing I am doing is adding more broccoli and asparagus in my diet. Yum!!

I see all these places that say, hey, try out this product and get a free canvas bag, or test drive this environmentally friendly vehicle and get a free canvas bag...and isn't it cool that I'm getting free canvas bags in order to shove plastic bags out of my life for-eva!? I think so.
And, by the way, I bite my tongue every time I see people walking out of the library with all their books and dvds in a plastic bag. Nooooo!

I have stopped picking up dog poop with plastic bags. This is my special contribution to the world in the form of fertilizer.
(Ok, if it's on someone's lawn I pick it up, but I have been trying to get my dog to go on grassy areas in alleys near my apartment and I hope these spots will soon be tiny rainforests)

I have switched all of the light bulbs in my house to energy saving ones.
Also, I have started composting all the food waste in my household. Hey, it's gardening season and I need free fertiliser, okay??

I started with a reusable menstrual pad,
My friends thought I was cheap and sad.
Keeping items out of the landfill I said,
And in money I am ahead.
I got a reusable grocery sack,
I just need to remember to take it back,
When I use it the groceries don't spill,
the bag doesn't wind up in the landfill.
I've started recycling my aluminimum cans,
because of soda we are big fans.
Next on my list is a refillable bottle of water,
Don't want this earth getting any hotter!
Let's not forget we just got a Prius,
So for this contest please pick us!

I love reuseable shopping bags! My most recent green move was to start using reuseable produce bags! I felt so silly putting my produce in plastic when I was brining my own bigger bags. The next step - no more paper towels or paper napkins! I'd love to find some good cloth alternatives to paper towels!

Well golly, I have done a bunch of stuff lately, but you said just one.... I think the biggest thing we just did was to buy a diesel car. We are going to convert it so that it uses waste vegetable oil. The next step is to find some restaurants that are willing to save oil for us. We have heard not to use fast food places because then your car always smells like french fries! I think we are going to try to find an Asian place first. Then it can smell like fried rice! :)

I started going green since I met these rural women who cared so much for the environment. They grow their vegetable garden using organic fertilisers and pest controls because they want to save the mother earth, they told me. If they cared so much for the environment, then why should I not join them? So I am using organic lotion, organic soap, and buy organic food in the market. I even starting to recycle scratch papers, making CD organisers out of shoe boxes, and I advocate for conservation of the environment and to decrease the carbon emissions to prevent greater and horrible impact of climate change.
  • Marie N · 1 year ago
I'm an avid recycler and was amazed at how large a carbon footprint my family was leaving when I started last year. We also went to more energy efficient lighting, watch our thermostat, don't use plastic bags and plan to put myself on the "No junk mail" list as soon as I figure out how to make it work. I look these retro bags...expecially the orange one.

My Mother was one of the original recyclers. When I was little I remember her recycling aluminum foil, styrofoam, bags. She was always telling us to turn off the water, cause God only made so much of things and when they are gone, what are we going to do? Since I grew up that way I have always tryed to follow her lead. I try to reuse just about everything. But I have found out lately, I have a lot to learn. By the way my Mother is 80.

We have started using cloth bags anytime we shop. We have a pretty "green" home to begin with because that's how I was raised. We try to shop at local farmer's markets as much as possible and ride our bikes instead of driving the car. We take our young son on long walks and he seems to love that more than any episode of Little Einsteins.

I've started slowly -- I changed all of our lightbulbs to compact fluorescents -- and quickly found not all bulbs are made the same! The first bunch I bought were from a cheaper company, and they all blew within only a few months. So I had to buy from a more expensive company... I recycle in my home, and I'm making my way into organic foors. I want to begin bringing reusable bags to the grocery store -- this would be a fabulous way to start! Thank ~

Ah, to be witty. I'm afraid the high intensity mothering I'm doing these days has made it harder for me to be as charming as I used to be.

I just recently switched to re-usable shopping bags. I've had my eye on Envirosax & would be thrilled to win some. Right now I'm using Chico Bags & I have to say, they're fantastic. I only bought a handful to start out with, but I'm finding all sorts of uses for them!

Thank you for offering up such a fun and generous giveaway. I hope it sparks a lot of interest in Envirosax, too!

WOW!!! I don't know what my chances are with almost 500 entries but it's worth a shot right??
When I was in high school I wanted to be a "carni" but then I read a Dean Koontz book that scared the crazy carni out of me!! I still can't look at a fair the same!!

As a gardener (and almost Horticulturalist) I have many things that we do to help make a "green living." We compost our garbage, buy locally if we don't grow it ourselves, we have all Energy star appliances and lightbulbs, and we have a timer on our water heater. My next transfer is a hybrid vehicle and slowly investing in solar panels.

I love the design of the bags!! What a great prize!!

I'm having a give away as well!! Check it out!!

I made the switch to non disposable menstrual products.

We have started making many changes around here. We grow as much food as we can. This is healthier for us but also greatly reduces our trash. No containers to throw away. We have started recycling. I make my own detergent which helps to keep plastic out of the landfills, keeps chemicals from being pumped into the ground and keeps us from absorbing toxins through our skin. We have been changing our lightbulbs. I use cloth diapers.

I need these bags! Thanks for the opportunity.

Where do I start - actually my favorite is composting kitchen waste, which I then get to use in the garden instead of chemical fertilizers. As I love fresh fruit and vegetables instead of frozen or canned, there is plenty to compost and no packaging to dispose of - isn't it marvelous how one thing leads to another. Did I mention the healthy exercise involved !

I love these bags! I have been doing a lot of things including using reusable bags, composting, recycling everything, buying locally, reducing packaging that i purchase, etc. Thanks for the giveaway!

You asked for one change (we're already doing recycling, composting, reducing...reusing-thrifting for clothes, especially baby items), but we ALWAYS seem to forget our reuseable shopping bags when we go to get groceries....if we had cool bags like these, we would DEFINITELY remember them! Awesome giveaway. and thanks for reminding me to use my bags!

well, started becoming more active with freecycle, we just got the nellies dryer balls, which reduce drying time and no more dryer sheets. Also, using the garbage disposal for anything I can stick down there. Wait, are there certain things I should NOT put in a garbage disposal? Well, just don't tell the nubby, LOL.

I have been oogling these bags for a llllllllliioooioooooonnnnnnnggggg time!
